We run printmaking courses covering a range of lithographic processes, including Stone, Zinc plate, and Photolithography.

They are aimed at beginners and intermediate level and conducted in small groups for artists interested in exploring these different print mediums.

Stone lithography is the oldest form of lithography and prized by artists as a unique print medium for well over 200 years. PHOTO LITHOGRAPHY

Working on a piece of specialist plastic film called TrueGrain, which is designed for photolithography, you will create your artwork using a range of traditional lithographic drawing materials, exploring different mark-making options with crayon and liquid wash effects. The film can be manipulated, reworked and revised until you are happy to expose it onto a pre-sensitised aluminium plate using a UV exposure unit. This plate will then be printed on the offset press to create multiple prints in a single colour.

Knowledge required:

  • Suitable for beginners or as a refresher

  • No prior printmaking knowledge required

What you will learn:

  • Preparation and drawing on a True Grain photo film

  • Placing your True Grain film on a photo litho plate and UV-exposing

  • Registering your image

  • Selecting and mixing colour ink

  • Printing your plate on an offset press with rubber composition rollers to create a small print edition

 What to bring:

  • Just yourself, a sketchbook or visual ideas to get you started, and a packed lunch!
